Catholic Shrines & Places of Interest in Chicago, Illinois

One of the largest cities in the U.S., Chicago has many shrines and places of interest for Catholics. The Diocese of Chicago was established in 1880. The first archbishop to be elevated to cardinal was George Mundelein in 1924. In 2014, the late Cardinal Francis George stepped down and Blase Cupich was appointed his successor on Nov. 18, 2014.

Some of the notable Catholic sites in Chicago, Illinois:

Assumption Catholic Church & Saint Peregrine Cancer Shrine: contains a relic of St. Peregrine.

Mar Thoma Sleeha Cathedral:  Syro-Malabar Catholic cathedral located in the suburb of Bellwood (in communion with Rome).
