About the Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe in Des Plaines:
Located a few miles from Chicago’s busy O’Hare airport is the shrine dedicated to the most significant apparition of Our Lady in the Western Hemisphere. It welcomes visitors from all over the U.S. and has special activities for December 11th and 12th to celebrate the Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe.
The Shrine features a 12-foot high statue of Our Lady of Guadalupe as well as a 6-foot tall statue of Saint Juan Diego. The Shrine also has a replica of the original image of Our Lady of Guadalupe brought from Mexico City. Construction of the grotto is ongoing and we suggest you check their website for updates and ways that you can not only visit, but also help in this project.
There are daily Masses at 7:00 p.m. in Spanish Monday through Saturday. Sunday Masses are (9:00 a.m, 1:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. in Spanish, 11:00 a.m. in English. Mass is held outdoors in the Grotto during the summer months and in the winter it is held indoors.
The Sacrament of Reconciliation is available Tuesdays and Thursdays at 6:30 p.m.
The Shrine is open 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. daily, except Sundays, when it opens at 8:00 a.m.
There are special celebrations and Masses scheduled around the feast day of Our Lady of Guadalupe on December 12.
