Fourth Day of Pope Leo VIV's Apostolic Journey to France

On Monday May 28, 2026 Pope Leo XIV will celebrate Mass at Metz Cathedral in Metz, France.

Pope Leo is expected to deliver a speech on Europe’s roots, peace and unity at a conference center named for Robert Schuman, a French statesman regarded as one of the Founding Fathers of European integration. Schuman, a Catholic, was declared “venerable” in 2021, a step in the Catholic Church’s sainthood process.

Following that, he will board his return flight to Rome, expected to depart France at 7:00 p.m. (19:00).

His visit has brought us a better picture of the state of the Catholic faith in the country, and renewed hope that Catholicism will once again be in the mainstream here in France, "The Eldest Daughter of The Church".
