Today the Catholic Church celebrates the great Pope Saint Pius V (1504-1572) who reigned from 1566–1572.
Among the many accomplishments of his Pontificate are:

• Oversaw victory at the Battle of Lepanto against Muslim forces.

• Published the Roman Missal and established the Tridentine Mass.

• Formed the Holy League to combat Ottoman expansion into Europe.

• Published the Catechism.

• Declared Saint Thomas Aquinas as a Doctor of the Church

• Excommunicated arch heretic Elizabeth I and freed the Irish and other Catholics from allegiance to her in "Regnans in Excelsis".

• Established the Feast of the Rosary.

• Declared Saint Thomas Aquinas as a Doctor of the Church.

• Standardized the Hail Mary prayer.

• Cleaned up the city of Rome (enforced strict moral reforms, eliminating extravagant court luxuries, and cracking down on public vice. He expelled prostitutes, banned bullfighting, severely punished blasphemy and adultery, and mandated religious devotion, aiming to turn Rome into a city of piety.
