Established in 1967 Mary, Mother of the Church was created to accommodate the expanding Catholic population in Brownsville, Texas. The early congregation initially held Masses at the Sacred Heart Mission (built in 1913) before relocating to a temporary hall and then constructing a new church. The community has grown significantly since that time. The parish continues to serve as a vibrant center of faith and community for the local area.
