Spello, Italy: Special Flower Procession on the Feast of Corpus Christi
About the festival in Spello:
Sixty days after Easter the Church celebrates the Feast of Corpus Christi, or Corpus Domini, as it is known in Latin.
One of the most beautiful celebrations of this Feast is held in Italy in the Umbrian town of Spello, just about 15 miles south of Assisi. The local townspeople decorate the streets with flowers and then the procession comes through on the way to the main church.
There are three churches in this town: Santa Maria Maggiore, Santa Andrea and Santa Lorenzo.
The procession is something worth taking in if you happen to be in this area at that time.
Traveling to Spello:
There is direct train service from Rome, although during the Festival many visitors will probably arrive from nearby Assisi or from Foligno on special trains. Get train & bus schedules, see fares & buy tickets here.
