The 6th World Day for Grandparents and the Elderly will be celebrated on Sunday, July 26, 2026.
The celebration, instituted by Pope Francis in 2021, occurs annually on the fourth Sunday of July and coincides with the feast of Saints Joachim and Anne, the grandparents of Jesus Christ.
For 2026, Pope Leo XIV has chosen the theme “I will never forget you” (Isaiah 49:15), emphasizing God’s unwavering love for every person, especially the elderly, and offering comfort to those who may feel isolated or forgotten.
This day is an opportunity for families, parishes, and communities to honor grandparents and elderly members, recognizing their contributions and fostering intergenerational connections. The Vatican encourages celebrations with Eucharistic liturgies and local initiatives to express care, gratitude, and spiritual closeness.
Activities may include prayer, sharing family stories, and acts of service to highlight the value of the elderly in society
