The Azores, Portugal

About The Azores:

The Azores (in English) or (Açores, in Portuguese) are an archipelago and autonomous region of Portugal located in the North Atlantic Ocean, approximately 870 miles (1,400 km) west of mainland Portugal and about 1180 miles (1900 km) southeast of Newfoundland.

The archipelago is renowned for its volcanic landscapes, crater lakes, and as a popular destination for eco-tourism and whale watching. These nine volcanic islands form the westernmost point of Europe.

The islands are divided into three main groups (Eastern, Central, and Northwestern): São Miguel (largest, with capital Ponta Delgada), Santa Maria, Faial, Pico, São Jorge, Terceira, Graciosa, Flores, and Corvo.
