About Mater Dei parish and Mater Dei Catholic School in Chula Vista, California:
Mater Dei Catholic School was originally founded in 1960 as Marian High School, it rebranded and has expanded so that it is now a full TK through 12 Catholic school.
For those not familiar with the term TK, it is Transitional Kindergarten (TK), the first year of a two-year kindergarten program for children turning 4 by September 1st, designed to bridge preschool and traditional kindergarten. It focuses on social-emotional growth, early literacy, and math skills through a play-based, structured curriculum.
Mater Dei serves nearly 1,750 students from transitional kindergarten through 12th grade and is noted as one of San Diego’s most diverse and comprehensive Catholic schools.
The high school portion (grades 9–12) has a strong college-prep focus, with many graduates attending 4-year universities.
The campus spans about 48–50 acres with modern facilities, athletics (Crusaders mascot), STEAM programs, dual-language immersion in elementary, and emphasis on faith formation, academics, arts, and service.
Among the services they offer to the community are the Juan Diego Adult Centers (JDAC) offering English language and citizenship classes that enhance and strengthen students’ English skills and support them throughout their U.S. citizenship application process. Their courses last for one year and continue as long as students are committed to attending or until they achieve proficiency comparable to that of a native speaker
