About Oahu:
Home to the city of Honolulu, the Island of Oahu is known for the famous Waikiki Beach and is the most visited of the Hawaiian Islands as well the most densely populated, with close to one million people. Among its attractions are Diamond Head (Lēʻahi) crater and hike, ʻIolani Palace (only royal palace in the U.S.) and Dole Plantation and agricultural areas. Its most famous attraction, perhaps, is Pearl Harbor, with the historic Pearl Harbor National Memorial (USS Arizona Memorial and related sites from the 1941 attack).
Oahu features a mix of bustling cities and charming towns, including Honolulu, Waikiki, Kailua, Haleiwa, Kaneohe, Kapolei, and Waianae.
The island consists of several areas:
The Windward Coast (east): Lush, scenic side with Kailua and Waimānalo beaches, Kāneʻohe Bay, and views of the Koʻolau Mountains. Popular for swimming, kayaking, and quieter vibes.
The North Shore: Famous for big-wave surfing (especially in winter) at spots like Pipeline, Sunset Beach, and Waimea Bay. Also the Polynesian Cultural Center and more rural/country feel.
The Leeward Coast (west): More arid and less developed, with beaches, Ko Olina resorts, and local communities.
