Feast day of Saint Athanasius of Alexandria, Doctor of the Church

Saint Athanasius of Alexandria (c. 296–373), was a 4th-century bishop, theologian, and Doctor of the Church known as the "Father of Orthodoxy".

He is celebrated for his staunch defense of the divinity of Christ against Arianism. Bishop of Alexandria, Egypt, and a major defender of Catholic doctrine.

Among titles given to him are Doctor of the Church, Champion of Christ’s Divinity, Pillar of the Church.Context: He was exiled five times for defending the faith but continued his work.

We celebrate his Feast Day on May 2 in Western Christianity.....Byzantine Christianity celebrates his Feast Day on January 18.

Although originally buried in Alexandria, Egypt, his remains were transferred to Venice, where they currently rest in a sarcophagus within the Chiesa di San Zaccaria (Church of San Zaccaria) in Venice, Italy.on the right side of the nave.
