About Mary Undoer of Knots Byzantine Catholic Shrine:

The Shrine, located in Mount Lemmon…50 miles northeast of Tucson… is a mission and is under the care of the Eparchy of Phoenix.

Bell in Mount Lemmon MonasteryThe Shrine has an 812-pound bell made by the Paul Revere and Sons company in 1826.

It is one of two Revere bells west of the Mississippi river.

Among the many interesting features are the chapel, Veteran’s Memorial and a Poustinia where married couples may stay overnight with a key to the chapel.

Note:  A Poustinia is a slavic term made popular in the western world by the author Catherine Doherty in her book “Poustinia: Encountering God in Silence, Solitude and Prayer.”
Poustinia means “desert.” A poustinia is a simple cabin or room to which one goes to pray and fast in silence and solitude, typically for a day.

There is also a gift shop and a full-time shrine director and priest.

Traveling to Mary Undoer of Knots Byzantine Catholic Shrine in Mount Lemmon, Arizona:

At over 9,000 foot altitude, Mount Lemmon is the highest point in the Santa Catalina Mountains. As mentioned above, it is about 50 miles northeast of Tucson.  The only way to reach it is by car on a winding road, but it is well worth the drive.
