Taft, Texas: Immaculate Conception Catholic Church

About Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Taft:

Immaculate Conception is a vibrant parish here in south Texas.

A unique feature here is a  relic, the finger bone of Saint Jose Sanchez del Rio, that is available for veneration Monday to Saturday year round.

Saint Jose fought for religious freedom against the Mexican government in “the Cristero War” and was martyred at the age of 14.  When the Mexican soldiers tried to get him to denounce his faith by torturing him, he refused and shouted “Viva Cristo Rey” or “Long Live Christ the King” as he was killed.
