New York City: Shrine of Our Lady of Aradin, Mother of the Persecuted Church

About Our Lady of Aradin, Mother of the Persecuted Church:

In light of the ongoing persecution of Christians in the Middle East and elsewhere, an icon of Our Lady of Aradin was created. The icon depicts Mary in the traditional dress of an Iraqi bride while the border is written in Aramaic, the language of Our Lord, still spoken in parts of Iraq as well as elsewhere in the Middle East.

The artist who made the icon, Mouthana Butres,  is from Qaraqosh, Iraq.  The artist and his family were driven from Iraq by ISIS militants and now reside in Lebanon.

About the Shrine of Our Lady of Aradin in New York City:

The Shrine is located inside Saint Michael’s Church here in New York City and is the first such shrine in the world (more are planned).
