Cooke County, Texas: Discalced Carmelite Monastery

About the Discalced Carmelite Monastery in Cooke County, Texas:

The establishment of a new monastery here stems from the fact that the nuns of The Monastery of the Most Holy Trinity in Arlington, Texas decided to affiliate themselves with the schismatic Society of Pius X. As a result, the nuns were suppressed.

Bishop Michael Olson of Fort Worth announced in early December 2025 that the Vatican approved establishing a new Discalced Carmelite Monastery in Cooke County, Texas, within his diocese, to replace the Monastery of the Holy Trinity in Arlington and bring a fresh start for contemplative life. On December 8, 2025 Bishop Michael Olson celebrated a Mass for the Foundation of the Carmel of Jesus Crucified at the monastery’s temporary location.

This new “Carmel of Jesus Crucified” is situated on a 35-acre site and is home to six nuns (and others in formation) belonging to the “Christ the King” Association of Discalced Carmelite Monasteries in the U.S., who live a life of prayer and contemplation. The purpose of the Monastery is to radiate contemplative life through prayer and intercession for the local church.

Bishop Olson has stated that “the sisters will not have a website ‘because it’s a distraction from their religious life. Social media can have adverse effects on a religious vocation, as we have seen’.”
