Catholic Churches in Kuwait

 

About Kuwait:

The oil-rich kingdom of Kuwait numbers a little over 1 million citizens, with another 2.5 million non-citizens, mostly foreign workers. The predominant religion is Muslim, divided between Sia and Sunni sects. There is a small minority of only about 400 Christian citizens, but quite a few foreign workers who are Christian. Of these, Catholic is the largest Christian group with an estimated 100,000 Catholics belonging to different Rites: Latin, Maronite, Greek Catholic, Coptic Catholic, Syrian Catholic, Armenian Catholic, Syro-Malabar, Syro-Malankara and Chaldeans, all in union with Rome . The Latin rite is the most prevalent.

The government maintains cordial diplomatic relations with the Vatican, being the first member of the Gulf Cooperation Council to maintain diplomatic ties with the Vatican State.

In Kuwait, the Latin faithful come from India, the Philippines and other Arab States; a small number are from Europe, Africa, America, other Asian countries and the Far East.

 

Catholic Churches in Kuwait:

There are 4 Catholic Parishes in Kuwait. Due to the large number of foreign workers in the country, many of the Masses are in languages such as English, Arabic, Tagalog, French, Tamil and others.
