About Saint Stephen Cathedral in Shkoder:
Saint Stephen Cathedral (often referred to as the Shkoder Cathedral) dates from 1858, and is the main cathedral in the country, and one of the largest in the Balkans.
In addition to the Cathedral itself, there is a museum with artifacts from the history from early stages of Albanian independence through the Islamic period, then Communist domination and finally the freedom they recently obtained.
In front of the museum…an area known as Saint John Paul II Square, you will see a sculpture dedicated to the martyrs of the communist era of Albania.
