Some Geographic Descriptions

Geographic descriptions can vary depending upon who is using them. A region’s boundaries and characteristics are not always objectively defined.

For example, the “Deep South” in the United States is not a strictly defined political region, but rather a cultural one.

Likewise “central America” is not necessarily a solid political entity.

Most English-speaking countries recognize seven continents as regions:

Asia: Asia is the largest continent in the world by both land area and population. It covers an area of more than 44 million square kilometers, about 30% of the earht’s surface.

Africa

Australia (sometimes called Oceania or Australasia).
