About the Co-Cathedral of the Sacred Heart in Houston:
The Cathedral is built with a modern look and yet has many traditional features, including one hundred and eight stained glass panels and windows. The organ, built by Casi Organ Builders, is a four-manual organ. (a manual is a keyboard; in the U.S., most church organs are built with two manuals (two keyboards) as the standard configuration. This reflects decades of tradition in American organ building, where two‑manual instruments were the norm for congregational use. Larger or more elaborate organs—such as those in major concert halls or historic cathedrals—might have three manuals, but a four‑manual console is rare and typically reserved for very large, specialized installations.
Here in the Co-Cathedral of the Sacred Heart, the organ is placed in the rear gallery on either side of the 40-foot-high Resurrection Window. This massive window necessitated a divided layout for the organ’s five divisions of pipes, and several unique design solutions were used to compensate for the lack of a traditional central organ case.
