Steubenville, Ohio

About Steubenville, Ohio:

Located along the Ohio River 33 miles (53 km) west of Pittsburgh, Steubenville earned the nickname “the heart of the workshop of the world,” due to its industry famous for iron, steel, tin, glass, pottery, paper, coal, oil, gas and fired clay. It was also called “The “City of Murals” after its more than 25 downtown murals.

As is common with many “rust belt” cities over the last years, Steubenville’s population declined from a peak of 37,651 in 1940 to 18,144 in the 2023 census. This, of course, does not include the higher education student population who are not permanent residents.
