About Saint Benedict’s Monastery in Snowmass:
Saint Benedict Monastery is a Cistercian Monastic Community, part of a 900-year-old tradition. The roots of their Order reach still further back to the Rule of St. Benedict, written 1,500 years ago.
St. Benedict’s Monastery occupies a spectacular valley high in the Colorado Rockies. Their community of about 15 members is fairly small, and like all monasteries has its’ own personality. Monasteries are like that—each one is unique.
The retreat facilities were designed and built to foster the spirit and practice of silence, solitude, meditation, and prayer. Although the majority of space is often used by groups, those not used are reserved for individual retreats.
Those who come on individual retreats have their own space and are never asked to share a hermitage or apartment. They may, of course, bring another person, since all spaces are equipped to accommodate two persons.
They strive to provide a welcoming spirit to all who come. They do not, however, provide directed retreats for individuals or groups.
They ask that guests plan a minimum of two nights and a maximum stay of ten days with them.
It is not their intention to provide local lodging for overnight stays or other activities that might be better accommodated at other facilities in the area (ski trips, reunions, weddings, social gatherings, etc.)
The Monastery also has an excellent book store: if you are in town, please stop by, make yourself comfortable and enjoy a book collection from a wide range of authors and topics. From contemporary spiritual writers to the classics, from theology to history, from ecology and environmental studies to peace and justice issues, from poetry to children’s books for all ages, the Bookstore has quite a bit to offer.
The Bookstore also offers a selection of gifts and merchandise from our monastery and other monasteries. The Bookstore is open from 8:00 am to 8:00 pm daily. Your can contact the bookstore directly by email: firstname.lastname@example.org
