About the University of Saint Thomas in Saint Paul, Minnesota:
Founded in 1885 as a Catholic seminary, it is named after Saint Thomas Aquinas, Catholic theologian, philosopher, and patron saint of students. It is a private Catholic research university with campuses in both Saint Paul and Minneapolis. At Saint Thomas, students have the opportunity to live and learn on three campuses: St. Paul, Minneapolis and Rome (Bernardi).
Their two main campuses are located in the heart of the Twin Cities. Each campus has a different vibe, but overall, as a Tommie (the nickname) students get the classic college campus experience with the comfort of it being in a small neighborhood. Their main campus located in St. Paul is nestled between the Merriam Park and Macalester Groveland neighborhoods, both of which are known for being safe, active and also not too far from the two large cities of Minneapolis and Saint Paul.
Our work is centered on four pillars: education, leadership, advocacy, and community. Through our signature programs and campus partnerships, we create opportunities for students to engage with and learn from one another in a spirit of respect and mutual understanding. We strive to create spaces where students can engage in meaningful dialogue, learn from diverse perspectives, and grow in their understanding of themselves and others.
Unfortunately, we have to take issue with their DEI policy. Here is the quote from their website: “SDIS strengthens the campus community by honoring the dignity and lived experiences of each student. We embrace differences in gender, race, ethnicity, generational history, culture, socioeconomic background, religion, sexual orientation, national origin, citizenship status, political perspectives, geographic origin, and ability. Our work reflects a deep commitment to building a just and inclusive community where all students are seen and supported.
Quite frankly, any time we hear the word “inclusive”, alarm bells go off in our heads.
