About Saint Mary of the Assumption Roman Catholic Church in Fort Worth, Texas:
The structure was designed in. The first mass was held on July 20, 1924.
The first Mass at St. Mary’s was celebrated on May 4, 1909, in the small wooden building that constituted the first Church. After a fire destroyed that building in 1922, the present Church was constructed in Romanesque Revival style by the firm Sanguinet, Staats and Hedrick and the first Mass was celebrated on July 20, 1924. With its magnificent stained glass windows, it offers an atmosphere that is both holy and beautiful.
Once a parish made up largely of Irish immigrants, the St. Mary’s of today is an arch-typical multicultural Church. This fact is reflected in the weekly Mass schedule which includes Masses in English and Spanish.
The church was added to the National Register on May 10, 1984. With its magnificent stained glass windows, it offers an atmosphere that is both holy and beautiful.
