Big Sur, California: New Camaldoli Hermitage

About New Camaldoli Hermitage:

The brothers and priests of New Camaldoli HermitageNew Camaldoli Hermitage is a community of Roman Catholic monks whose life is dedicated to contemplation and prayer. They are a worshiping community, celebrating with our friends and guests the Liturgy of the Hours and the Holy Eucharist.

Bench at sunsetTheir monastic fellowship extends beyond the walls of this hermitage and embraces a large and inclusive community of oblates, persons of different walks of life who live the grace of their baptism in spiritual communion with the monks.

They offer directed, preached and private retreats in a magnificent setting on the Big Sur. Oftentimes, people come here to get away from the world and yet be immersed in the beauty of God’s creation.

They have a wonderful gift shop offering such items as body care products (made at their Mother Hermitage in Italy, and imported exclusively by them; their own famous Brandy-dipped fruit cake (said to convert many a “fruit cake atheist”);  their “Holy Granola”; Chocolate Truffles, cards, books and much more.
