Iași, Romania: Our Lady Queen of Iași Cathedral

About Our Lady Queen of Iași Cathedral:

This fairly new cathedral, finished in 2005, to replace old cathedral of St. Mary, which had become too small to accommodate everyone. The actual title is Our Lady Queen.

In the Cathedral is the memorial to Blessed Anton Durcovici (1888-1951), Bishop of Iasi, who was imprisoned by the Communists and eventually died in prison in 1951.  No grave was ever found and the Communists did everything possible to strike his name from any official records.

Pope Francis visited the Cathedral on June 1, 2019 as part of his Apostolic visit to Romania.
