About Craiova, Romania:

Craiova is one of Romania’s oldest urban settlements; first documented in 1475, and today has an estimated population of 270,000. Craiova is the sixth-largest city in Romania. It earned the name “The City of Roses” (due to its many parks and historic rose gardens)

Politically it was an important center of the 1848 Wallachian Revolution and the 1989 anti-communist protests.

Craiova is a major university city (University of Craiova, University of Medicine and Pharmacy) as well as an automotive industry hub and a growing IT and outsourcing sector.

As you might expect, Craiova is rich in Orthodox religious sites like the massive Saint Demetrius Cathedral, but the city also has a Catholic presence.

Craiova is On the left bank of the Jiu River, about 124 miles (200 km) west of Bucharest. There is train service from Bucharest.
