Bucharest: The Holy Saviour Italian Church

 

About the Holy Saviour Italian Church in Bucharest:

Completed around 1916, it has survived several major earthquakes in  the 20th century as well as the communist regimes.  It was meant to serve the spiritual needs of the Italian community in Bucharest and offers Mass in Romanian, Italian and Polish.

Its exterior is said to be modeled on Santa Maria delle Grazie, in Milan) and has beautiful bell tower (campanile) that makes it esy to recognize.

The interior is relatively simple, but has beautiful sculptures and stations of the Cross.

Occasionally music concerts….especially organ recitals…are held in the church.

The church is crammed between apartment buildings and is on one of the busiest streets in Bucharest, so it is easy to overlook.
