About Jerónimos Monastery:
Built partly in thanksgiving for the discoveries of the explorer Vasco de Gama, whose body is now in the nave of the Monastery’s Church. The tomb is close to the tombs of King Manuel I and King John III.
The Monastery was later donated to the Monks of the Order of Saint Jerome.
Tours include the sixteenth-century cloister, the ancient refectory of the monks and the room of the old bookshop.
