Kolkata, India: Motherhouse of the Missionaries of Charity & Tomb of Mother Teresa

About the Motherhouse of the Missionaries of Charity:

The Mother House is the headquarters and residential quarters for the Missionaries of Charity, which was started by Mother Teresa.  It is also the final resting place for Mother Teresa’s mortal remains and you can visit her tomb here.

It is very simple, as you might imagine, and very inspirational when you think of the effect this simple nun had upon the world….and, of course, she is now Saint Mother Teresa.

There are three areas open to visitors:

Tomb of mother Teresa

Mother Teresa’s simple room she lived in, including the wooden cot she slept on.

Also a small room displaying her letters, diaries, dress and sandals.

And, finally, her tomb:  a place to pray and mediatate upon this holy woman and the work she accomplished.
