The Saint-Paul de Wisques Abbey is a Benedictine abbey founded in 1889 and is affiliated to the male branch of the Congregation of Solesmes, which had been founded in 1837 by Pope Gregory XVI as the French Benedictine Congregation.

Chased by the anti-Catholic laws of 1901, the monks took refuge in the Netherlands, before returning to their property in 1920. The current brick buildings date from that time. Enlarged in the 1950s, the abbey also saw the foundation of a chapel of the monks in 1957 and a new hotel in the late 1960s.

Threatened to disappear for lack of new monks, in the 2010’s the Abbey welcomed brothers of the Abbey Notre-Dame de Fontgombault. Today if is a functioning abbey and is open to the public, offeing spiritual and religious retreats as well as services.
