Saint Martin of Tours was a 4th-century bishop and missionary born in what is now Hungary, best known for his act of charity where he famously split his cloak to share with a beggar. He was a soldier who eventually became a conscientious objector, a monk, and finally the bishop of Tours, France, where he established monasteries and churches, and advocated for mercy in church conflicts. He is one of the most popular saints in Christianity, and his feast day is celebrated on November 11.
