About Brazil:

Brazil is the largest country in South America by both land area (fifth-largest in the world…..roughly equivalent to the size of the contiguous United States (the lower 48) or 84% of Europe’s total area). It occupies nearly half the continent……about 3 million square miles (8.5 million square kilometers) and population (223 million as of 2026 estimates), making it the seventh-most populous country globally and home to about a third of Latin America’s people. It borders every South American country except Chile and Ecuador, with a 4,600-mile (7,400 km) Atlantic coastline.

Brazil was under Portuguese rule for over 300 years and as a result the official language is Portuguese, which surprises some, who expect it to be Spanish, as it is in most other South American countries. Most residents live along the eastern coast, though the capital, Brasília, is inland. Major cities include São Paulo (the largest) and Rio de Janeiro, famous for its beaches, Carnival, and cultural vibrancy.

Its geography is incredibly diverse, featuring the vast Amazon Rainforest (the world’s largest tropical rainforest and river basin), wetlands, savannas, plateaus, and beaches, but no deserts or high mountains. The climate is mostly tropical, with temperate zones in the south.

Brazil is a federal presidential republic. Its culture blends Indigenous, African, European, and other influences, seen in music (samba, bossa nova), soccer passion, festivals like Carnival, and diverse cuisine. Economically, it is an upper-middle-income emerging economy—one of the world’s top 10 by nominal and PPP GDP—with strengths in agriculture (a major global exporter of coffee, soy, beef, etc.), mining, industry, oil, and services.

It faces challenges like social inequality, environmental issues (especially Amazon deforestation), and political polarization.

Overall, Brazil is known for its natural beauty, biodiversity, energetic culture, and economic potential as a leader in South America.
