Haines Junction, Yukon Territory: Our Lady of the Way Roman Catholic Church

About Haines Junction, Yukon Territory:

The current town of Haines Junction during the construction of the Alaska Highway (ALCAN).  The Alaskan Highway was built by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in 1941-1942 and is 1390 miles long, connecting the northern U.S. through Canada to Alaska.  In 1943, a second highway, the Haines Highway, was built to connect the Alaska Highway with the coastal town of Haines, Alaska, over the Chilkat Pass, hence the name Haines Junction.

About Our Lady of the Way Roman Catholic Church in Haines Junction, Yukon Territory:

Built by the U.S. Army, the building is Quonset Hut that has been re-purposed as a church.  The result, in our opinion, fits perfectly with the image of a frontier such as Alaska was at the time….and to a certain extent, still is.  At least, that is what it seems to many who have seen the Yukon Territory in all its majesty and rugged beauty.
