Churches near the cruise port of Fort Lauderdale, Florida

About the cruise port of Miami:

Billed as the largest cruise port in the world, Fort Lauderdale (more commonly known as Port Everglades) is about two miles from Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport and about 27 miles north of Miami International Airport.

Since many cruises embark or disembark on weekends, there is the problem as to how to find a place for Mass. If you are sailing on Holland America, which offers several departures each month, that will not be a problem since they have a Catholic priest on all of their cruises. Royal Caribbean has a priest on board re-positioning and most Easter and Christmas cruises.

Where to find a Mass near the cruise port of Miami:

Other cruise lines do not have a priest on board, and so for those departing or returning on Sundays, the problem is where to attend Mass.

The closest church to the port is San Sebastian, according to pastoral Assistant Anne Gardner. Weekend Mass schedule is as follows: Saturday Vigil: 5:00 pm; Sunday Masses are at 8:30 am and 11:00 am. The Sacrament of Reconciliation (Confession) is on Saturdays from 4:00 – 4:45 pm.

Unfortunately, if your cruise is departing on a Saturday, you will probably not be able to attend a vigil Mass. But if you are unable to attend Mass due to traveling, most priests will tell you to offer up your next Mass (whenever you can make it) in place of the one you miss.
