About the Saint Patrick Centre in Downpatrick, Northern Ireland:

The History of Ireland starts here in Patrick’s words, which guide you through their amazing multimedia exhibition. The Saint Patrick Centre (also called St Patrick’s Centre or Saint Patrick Visitor Centre) in Downpatrick, County Down, Northern Ireland, is the world’s only permanent exhibition dedicated to Saint Patrick, Ireland’s patron saint.

The centre focuses on the historical Patrick rather than legends, drawing primarily on his own writings (especially the Confession). Visitors experience a multimedia exhibition narrated in Patrick’s words by Irish actor Ciarán Hinds (known for Game of Thrones, Harry Potter, etc.). It covers his Roman British background, capture and slavery in Ireland, escape, return as a missionary, and the wider impact of early Irish Christianity and missionaries in Europe. Features include interactive displays, bold graphics, sculpture, video/audio, and an IMAX-style cinema with a 180-degree “flight” over key Irish sites linked to Patrick.

Additional facilities include a Craft/gift store, Garden Café, Art gallery and conference and event spaces. There is also information on the Saint Patrick’s Way, a roughly 82-mile (132 km) signed walking trail, often called Ireland’s Camino, running from Armagh to Downpatrick; pilgrim passports and certificates are available)
