Santa Cruz, California: Shrine of Saint Joseph, Guardian of the Redeemer

 

About the Shrine of St. Joseph, Guardian of the Redeemer:

Saint Joseph in honored here in a shrine founded by the Oblates of Saint Joseph in 1952, who came here in 1931 to minister to the large number of Italian immigrants in the area.

The shrine contains a relic of Saint Joseph Marello, Bishop of Acqui and founder of the Oblates of St. Joseph. Saint Joseph Marello was Canonized in 2001.

There are facilities for groups as well, including a dining hall and kitchen.

An annual pilgrimage is held the second Sunday of August on the Shrine grounds. The day begins with Mass followed by a barbecue and entertainment. It ends with an outdoor procession in honor of Saint Joseph and finally Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament in the Chapel.

The Chapel is open daily from 7:00 a.m until sunset. Mass is held seven days of the week at 11 a.m., with Sacrament of Reconciliation 30 minutes prior to beginning of Mass

The Art Exhibit and Bookstore are open seven days a week from 11:30 a.m. until 2 p.m.

The first Thursday of each month a Holy Hour for Vocations is held from 7-8 p.m.
