About the Shrine of the Holy Relics in Maria Stein, Ohio:

The story of Maria Stein in Switzerland is outlined on another page of this website. For those traveling in the U.S. and not able to travel to Maria Stein, Switzerland we urge you to consider a visit to the Maria Stein Shrine of the Holy Relics in Ohio and its retreat center.

The Shrine and the Spiritual Center was owned and operated by the Sisters of the Most Precious Blood until January 2017, when it was entrusted to the laity in order to secure the future of the Shrine.

The Shrine contains over 1,000 relics, making it the second-largest collection of relics in the U.S. (the largest is at (St Anthony’s Chapel in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania), housed in a beautiful chapel dating from 1892.

The chapel features magnificent stained glass windows imported from Munich, Germany as well as a hand-carved altar made for the chapel.  There is also a heritage museum dedicated to the many settlers of German descent who came to this area in the 19th Century, as well as a gift shop. Tours of the Shrine are available daily.
