About the Basilica of Saint Anasthasia in Verona:
The Basilica is located where a church existed from the Lombard period and dedicated to the Virgin Anastasia, a fourth century martyr. . Around 1290, the order of the Dominicans settled here and began the construction of the Gothic basilica. The work was possible thanks to the support of the Della Scala family, who ruled Verona from the late 13th to the late 14th century.
The Basilica of Saint Anasthasia is consecrated to the patron saint of the city and is recognizable for its great Bell tower, which was built between the 9th and 12th centuries. The rose window in the facade is decorated with statues and is known as Ruota della Fortuna (Wheel of fortune).
The main altar hosts a great Renaissance triptych of Andrea Mantegna.
To the left of the transept is the Giusti chapel which was at one time the oratory of the Dominican monastery.
