On Friday 20 April the Holy Father Francis will pay a pastoral visit to Alessano (Lecce), in the diocese of Ugento-Santa Maria di Leuca, and to Molfetta (Bari) in the diocese of Molfetta-Ruvo-Giovinazzo-Terlizzi, on the 25th anniversary of the death of H.E. Msgr. Tonino Bello" the director of the Vatican Press Office, Greg Burke, announced.
Bello is considered the pastor "of peace and mercy" as well as the bishop "of the last ones". Twenty-five years after his death, the life, history, spirit and "heirs" of Don Tonino Bello will be honored by the visit of the Pope, who called for the extraordinary Jubilee of Mercy, and who never ceases to invoke the building of bridges and the tearing down of walls in order to achieve reconciliation in every corner of the planet, and who urges to set out and look after those who find themselves in geographical but also existential peripheries.
