St. Robert Bellarmine was an Italian Jesuit Cardinal known for his crucial role in the Catholic Counter-Reformation, his eloquent defenses of Church doctrine, and his logical approach to countering Protestantism through his famous Disputationes and catechisms. He was also the advisor to several Popes, involved in revising the Vulgate Bible, and served as Archbishop of Capua.
He is venerated as a Doctor of the Church and the patron saint of catechists and canonists.
