Saint Lawrence of Brindisi (also known as Lorenzo da Brindisi) was a 16th–17th century Italian Capuchin Franciscan friar, priest, theologian, preacher, diplomat, and scholar.
He was beatified on June 1, 1783 by Pope Pius VI and canonized on December 8, 1881, in Saint Peter’s Basilica in Rome by Pope Leo XIII.
He is recognized as a Doctor of the Church (the “Apostolic Doctor”) for his profound knowledge of Sacred Scripture and his effective defense of the Catholic faith.
