Florian was an officer in the Roman army in charge of a fire fighting brigade. Ordered to kill Christians by the emperor Diocletian, he refused. He was put to death as a result. Saint Florian is the man who has been given the title of patron saint of firefighters and floods.
He is rememberd in these three places:
