Abu Dhabi is the capital city of the United Arab Emirates (often referred to simply as The UAE). The city is situated on a T-shaped island, extending into the Persian Gulf from the central-western coast of the UAE.  Most of the city and the Emirate reside on the mainland connected to the rest of the country. As you might expect in this Muslim-dominated country, most of those attending Catholic churches are migrant workers.

Saint Joseph’s Cathedral:  one of five Catholic churches in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi alongside Saint Paul’s in Musaffah, Saint Mary‘s in Al Ain, Saint Francis’ in the Abrahamic Family House complex on Saadiyat Island, and Saint John the Baptist in Ruwais.

Traveling to Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates:

Almost all visitors arrive bay air to  Zayed International Airport (Code AUH).   In December  2024, Dhabi the airport won the title of “World’s Most Beautiful Airport” at the Prix Versailles, a prestigious award for architecture and design. The award recognized its impressive architectural design in the Airports category.

Abu Dhabi City is connected to the second phase of the Etihad Rail network, completed in 2023, for freight operations across the seven emirates.
Passenger traffic is in the planning stages that will allow for travel from Abu Dhabi city to other emirates on the network; however, no date on commencement of operation has been set.
