Ukraine

Brief history of Ukraine:

In 988 St. Volodymyr, the grandprince of Kiev, proclaimed Christianity the official religion of his realm. It was then that on his sum-mons the entire populace of his capital underwent
mass baptism in the waters of the Dnieper River.

The faith grew over the centuries, but the 20th century saw oppression under Communism from around 1918 all the way until 1991, when the Soviet Union fell and the country become free.

Among the notable shrines in Ukraine, these stand out:

Hrushiv:  Apparitions of the Blessed Virgin Mary (1914 & 1987)
