About Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Colwich, Kansas:
The first Catholic church in Colwich was dedicated on May 3, 1901, in honor of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. The first resident pastor, Fr. Joseph Manz, arrived in November 1901. A white frame church burned on June 20, 1915. The cornerstone for the current brick church was laid on May 14, 1916; it was usable by August 1917 and formally dedicated by Bishop Hennessy on June 9, 1918. This building remains in use today.
The parish has a history of vocations, including several native sons who became priests (Benedictines and diocesan clergy).
