Waterbury, Connecticut: The Shrine of Saint Anne for Mothers

About the Shrine of Saint Anne for Mothers:

This Church has a history dating back to 1906, when the French Canadian immigrants in this area broke ground for a new church that would be dedicated to Saint Anne, the mother of the Blessed Virgin Mary. It was finally completed in 1922, and subsequently many beautiful stained glass windows, imported from Germany, were added.

Unfortunately, the Church suffered two disastrous fires: one in 1971 and one in 1978, that resulted in extensive damage to the interior as well as destruction of several of the stained glass windows. The exterior, being of granite, was spared from damage.

Over the ensuing years much re-construction has begun and the church is evolving into being named a national shrine: The Shrine of Saint Anne for Mothers.

Masses are held every Sunday and guided tours are available at noon on the first Sunday of the month. These tours are guided by Registered Architect Dom Narducci of Southbury, CT. He has taught and lectured extensively at the college level.

The shrine is now combined with the Church of Our Lady of Lourdes here in Waterbury to make one parish with two worship sites.
