Steamboat Springs, Colorado (often called “The Boat”) is a charming mountain town and premier four-season resort destination in Routt County, in northwestern Colorado. It sits in the upper Yampa River Valley, about 150 miles northwest of Denver, west of the Continental Divide, and near Rabbit Ears Pass. The town is known for its authentic Western/ranching vibe mixed with outdoor adventure. It earned its name from early French trappers who mistook the chugging sound of a natural mineral spring for a steamboat. James Crawford settled the area in the 1870s, and the town was incorporated in 1900. Recent census estimates are around 13,000 population.
Steamboat Springs is the county seat and the largest community in northwestern Colorado and is famous for producing more Winter Olympians than any other town in North America.
Steamboat is a world-class ski destination with legendary “Champagne Powder” snow. “Champagne Powder” is a trademarked term used to describe the exceptionally light and dry snow that falls at Steamboat Ski Resort. This snow is characterized by its low water content, typically around 6%, compared to about 15% found in snow at other ski resorts. This low moisture content results in snow that is fluffy and airy, making it ideal for skiing and snowboarding
Steamboat Ski Resort (on Mount Werner) has about 3,700+ ski-able acres, 180+ trails, 23 lifts, and significant vertical drop. It is excellent for all levels, especially tree skiing and families. Howelsen Hill is a smaller, historic ski area in town and is the oldest continuously operating ski area in Colorado. Other winter activities include snowshoeing, tubing, ice skating, and snowmobiling.
Steamboat attracts visitors in summer with mild temperatures, wildflowers, and abundant recreation. It offers Old Town Hot Springs, which is family-friendly. We don’t recommend Strawberry Park Hot Springs, since it is “clothing optional”.
Other attractions include Fish Creek Falls (easy access, impressive cascade), trails in Medicine Bow-Routt National Forests, and Emerald Mountain. Tubing, rafting, fly fishing, or strolling the Yampa River Core Trail and Botanic Park, Mountain biking, zip-lining, horseback riding on working ranches, golf, hot-air ballooning and boating/fishing at nearby lakes (Steamboat Lake, Pearl Lake, Stagecoach).
Downtown has shops, restaurants, breweries, art galleries, and the Tread of Pioneers Museum.

Holy Name Catholic Parish is comprised of two churches: Holy Name Catholic Church and St. Martin of Tours Catholic Church. As such, they alternate some of their Masses and other sacramental activities. As you might expect, there certain times of the year (ski season being the main one, but also in summer) when the population of Steamboat Springs swells.

By train: AMTRAK has service to Denver. The California Zephyr runs daily from Chicago to San Francisco, stopping in Denver. From there you can take a bus to Steamboat Springs.
By bus from Denver: “The Bustang” runs from Denver. Passengers can board the buses from Denver Union Station, which is a direct train ride from Denver International Airport.
By car: Steamboat Springs is located on Interstate 40, a major interstate highway. From west to east, it passes through California, Arizona, New Mexico, Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Tennessee, and North Carolina.
