South Amboy, New Jersey: Saint Mary Star of the Sea Church

About Saint Mary Star of the Sea Church in South Amboy, New Jersey:

In 1851, Saint Mary Star of the Sea was established as part of a mission field extending along the Jersey shore. Father Rogers of New Brunswick built a small chapel on the site of the present parish cemetery. The small congregation of twenty-five families grew rapidly. In 1853, property was purchased on Stevens Avenue and Augusta Street. The chapel was moved there and enlarged, and a school established. The first class was held in the sacristy of the Church.

Today, the church is a vibrant community with daily and weekend Masses, Confessions and Adoration.

One of their ministries is “MUSIC AT SAINT MARY’S”, a non-profit organization whose purpose is to bring free classical music to South Amboy and the greater Middlesex County area. A reasonable monetary donation is collected at the door.
