Silver City, New Mexico

About Silver City:

One of the most picturesque areas in the state of New Mexico, Silver City is adjacent to the Gila National Forest…… over three million acres of forested hills, majestic mountains and range land. It is probably best known for its wilderness areas; in particular the Gila Wilderness. On June 3, 1924, 755,000 acres were set aside by the Forest Service as the Gila Wilderness, the first designated wilderness in the world.  The wilderness is approximately 27 miles from north to south and 39 miles east to west.

The magnificent mountain scenery, cool summer temperatures and relatively mild winters attract visitors to Silver City year ’round.  And, an added bonus for Catholics, is Our Lady of Guadalupe Benedictine Monastery.
