About Comfort, Texas:
Founded by German immigrants, Comfort, Texas is an unincorporated, historic gem in the heart of the Texas Hill Country, roughly 50 miles northwest of San Antonio. Founded by German immigrants in 1854, it features one of the best-preserved business districts in the state and offers wineries, boutique shopping, and outdoor recreation. As of the 2020 census, Comfort had a population of 2,211.

As you might expect of such a small town, Comfort Texas has only one Catholic Church ….but it is a dynamic parish with many worship and social opportunities for Catholics. There are also several Protestant churches, quite a number for such a small town.
Sacred Heart Catholic Church
Sacred Heart Catholic Church was established in 1885 as a mission. During the next several decades, it was under the jurisdiction of St. Peters in Boerne, Texas and Notre Dame in Kerrville Texas.
The first church was a pine wood structure at 712 Front Street. As the parish grew a new church was constructed on Broadway street and dedicated on August 7, 1949. At this location Hilsher Hall was built for use as classrooms, ministry and community gathering and meetings.
It became an independent parish on September 15, 1964 and is under the jurisdiction of the Archdiocese of San Antonio.Again, the parish grew, and the church moved to its present located on Hwy 87 and was dedicated in November of 2012.
Today Sacred Heart Catholic Church is a bilingual community in its worship and parochial programs.

Comfort is located in what is called “The Texas Hill Country”, it is at the interchange of I-10 and US 87; 18 miles (29 km) southeast of Kerrville, 16 miles (26 km) northwest of Boerne, and 48 miles (77 km) northwest of San Antonio (about a 45 to 50-minute drive on I-10 East). Austin is also relatively close, situated about 83 miles (roughly 1.5 hours) to the northeast.
